Welcome to the Rotary Club of Hollister's weekly bulletin!

This is the bulletin for our meeting on Monday, March 4, 2024.

Meeting:
 
The meeting was called to order by President Rich Marcus. at 12:15 with 35 people in attendance. 
 
Kyle Sharp led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance.
 
Mike Sanchez shared the Thought for the Day.
 
Guest of Rotarians: None today.

Announcements:
 
Larry Shaw reminded those who signed up for the golf outing today that the first tee time was at 2 PM and there were three foursomes playing.  
 
Larry Barr asked for volunteers to participate in mock interviews at the high school.  See Larry for details.
 
Rich reported that board has agreed to join the Chamber of Commerce in a social mixer the evening of April 17th from 5:30 to 8:00 PM. More details to be announced. 
 
Raffle:
 
Raffle winners this week were Rosie Segura, drawing for $60, and Larry Shaw, drawing for $90. Both did not pick a winning card.
 
Detective: 
 
Our detective this week was Larry Barr.  He fined members for not being able to answer his questions about Bolado, Ridgemark and San Juan Oaks golf courses. 
 
Change So did not know the original name for Bolado Park. Answer: San Benito County Club. $5 fine.
 
Gordon Machado did not know the year the course was created. Answer 1928. $5 fine.
 
Marchel Nelson was asked how many holes in the original course, the correct answer was 3. $5 fine.
 
Bill Tiffany did not know the year the course was renamed to Bolado Park. Answer 1948. $5 fine.
 
Kyle Sharp did not know the year the Bolado Park club house burned down. Answer 2006.  Orr when it was rebuilt. Answer 2008. Only $5 fine for two wrong answers.
 
Bill Baker did not know the date Ridgemark opened with two courses. Answer 1987.  $5 fine.
 
Mike Sanchez did not know the date when San Juan Oaks closed. Answer 2022. $5 fine.
 
We all learned more about the history of golf in San Benito County thanks to Larry's questions.
 
This Week's Program
 
The program this week was introduced by Larry Barr who told the club that we have had the Student of the Month recognition for Hollister High School of 19 years.  This week we honored the top female and male students for the first five months of the school year, from September to January.  Larry introduced the following students:
 
September: Kimberly Ruiz and Estevan Rodriguez
October: Frida Chavarin-Lara and Ivan Carmona
November: Kendra Melching and Bryan Diaz-Valdez
December: Brenna McElroy and Bryan Lopez-Ramirez
January: Grace Sugiura and Jacob Varnes
 
Larry introduced each student who then told the club about their plans for college and their major area of interest.
 
Names of each student's name were put into a hat and two names were drawn to receive an iPad Pro. 
 
Larry then introduced Kevin Medeiros, Principal of Hollister High School who thanked the club for providing support to the high school with programs like Student of the Month.  He told the club that students never forget the time they attended a Rotary meeting and received an award. 
 
 
 
 
 
NEXT WEEK'S PROGRAM
 
Our next meeting is on Monday, March 11th at Paine's Restaurant. Lunch will be available prior to the start of the meeting at 12 Noon. 
 
The program will be an update on the new Gavilan College San Benito County Campus by college president, Dr. Pedro Avila, and Damon Felice, of Felice Consulting Services which is managing the campus construction.
